Get an online business going in just eight steps

ONLINE businesses are becoming more and more popular as a source of side income, and some entrepreneurs are also able to live completely off their online earnings alone. For some, however, it can be a daunting task to get a web business up and running.

But it doesn't have to be, with these eight simple steps.

1. Buy a domain name that is related to your online business. If you are selling gardening tools online, a good domain name would be www.cheap-gardening-equipment.com, rather than www.gardntoolz.com. You can purchase a cheap domain name at www.namecheap.com or www.godaddy.com.

2. Get yourself a web hosting account to store your website on. Google web hosting providers' and you will have a large selection to choose from. I would suggest a cPanel-based hosting account (just ask your web host to show you which packages are cPanel-based).

3. Install a website on your hosting. My suggestion would be to install Wordpress onto your website, as it is the most commonly used open source website available online and it's free too! Again, ask your web host to give you a tutorial on how to do this; they'll probably even have videos or a step-by-step guide for you to follow.

4. Install a free theme for your website. Go to http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ and take your pick. Installing a theme can be done in one click.

5. Find something to sell online. You can either source for or create your own products, but selling other peoples' products as an “affiliate” would be a faster way to start. Commissions are typically 50% to 70% for electronic products and 4% to15% for physical products. You can try www.clickbank.com or https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/ to find products to sell online.

6. Go to paypal.com and register an account so that you can start receiving money if you are selling your own products or services online.

7. Drive traffic to your website by telling friends on Facebook and Twitter, by writing articles on your website to generate search engine traffic, participating in discussions in related forums or blogs and even give Google and Facebook advertising a try. Track your web traffic by using www.google.com/analytics to see where your marketing dollars are going.

8. Repeat step 7 and don't give up!

Swiss master edges brave Roddick for a record 15th Grand Slam title

LONDON: Roger Federer made history yesterday when he defeated a brave Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 16-14 to win a sixth Wimbledon title and claim a record 15th Grand Slam crown in a classic final.

But the Swiss second seed was given a huge fright by the American sixth seed who led by a set, had four set points in the second and didn’t drop serve until the final, heartbreaking game of the match.

In an extraordinary conclusion, the last set was the longest ever played in a men’s Wimbledon final.

Federer, 27, now has six Wimbledon titles, five US Opens, three Australian Opens and a French Open trophy, and has surpassed Pete Sampras’s mark of 14 majors.

He will also reclaim his world No. 1 spot from Rafael Nadal, who beat him in a five-set final here last year, today.

Sampras, and fellow greats Rod Laver and Bjorn Borg were on hand to watch Federer’s bid for history, as were Hollywood giants Woody Allen and Russell Crowe, such was the attraction of the Centre Court blockbuster.

Federer, in a record seventh straight Wimbledon final and 20th Grand Slam title match, saw Roddick save four break points in the 11th game of the opening set and he immediately paid a heavy price.

The Swiss went wide with a crosscourt drive, which put him set point down, and then repeated the error to hand the American the opener 7-5.

Roddick, whose only Grand Slam title came at the 2003 US Open, lost the 2004 and 2005 finals here to Federer, just two of his 18 defeats in 20 career meetings with the world No. 2.

But yesterday he wisely adopted the same game plan he employed in his semi-final win over Britain’s Andy Murray, a powerful mix of trademark big groundstrokes punctuated by regular visits to the net.

Serve again dominated the second set before Roddick stretched to a 6-2 lead, and four set points, in the tiebreaker but Federer fought back and levelled the final when the American unleashed a wild backhand.

Roddick was now under siege, saving a break point in the sixth game of the third set before another tiebreaker was required.

Federer went to three set points, two of which Roddick saved, but the Swiss opened up a two sets to one lead when a Roddick service return fell comfortably into his hitting zone and he despatched a fierce forehand winner.

Roddick, playing in his first Grand Slam final since the 2006 US Open, refused to surrender and broke Federer to lead 3-1 in the fourth set on his way to levelling the final.

Federer again failed to convert a break point in the second game of the decider before he was forced to fight off two on his own serve in the 17th game. But eventually Roddick, always having to chase the game, wilted in the 30th game of the decider when he ballooned a weary forehand long.

“Andy I want to say you’re going to come back and win one, I’m sure,” Federer said on court as a shattered Roddick contemplated his third defeat to Federer in a Wimbledon final. “Today I was on the lucky side. He was 50.

He collapsed at his residence in the Holmby Hills section of Los Angeles, California, about noon Pacific time, suffering cardiac arrest, according to brother Randy Jackson. He died at UCLA Medical Center.

The pop music landscape was changing, however, opening up for rap, hip-hop and what came to be called "alternative" -- and Jackson was seen as out of step.

His next release, 1991's "Dangerous," debuted at No. 1 but "only" produced one top-ranking single -- "Black or White" -- and that song earned criticism for its inexplicably violent ending, in which Jackson was seen smashing car windows and clutching his crotch.

And then "Dangerous" was knocked out of its No. 1 spot on the album charts by Nirvana's "Nevermind," an occurrence noted for its symbolism by rock critics.

After that, more attention was paid to Jackson's private life than his music career, which faltered. A 1995 two-CD greatest hits, "HIStory," sold relatively poorly, given the huge expense of Jackson's recording contract: about 7 million copies, according to Recording Industry of America certifications.

A 2001 album of new material, "Invincible," did even worse.

In 2005, he went to trial on child-molestation charges. He was acquitted.

In July 2008, after three years away from the spotlight, Jackson announced a series of concerts at London's O2 Arena as his "curtain call." Some of the shows, initially scheduled to begin in July, were eventually postponed until 2010.

Rise to stardom

Michael Jackson was born August 29, 1958, to Joe Jackson, a Gary, Indiana, steelworker, and his wife, Katherine. By the time he was 6, he had joined his brothers in a musical group organized by his father, and by the time he was 10, the group -- the Jackson 5 -- had been signed to Motown. He made his first television appearance at age 11.

Jackson, a natural performer, soon became the group's front man. Music critic Langdon Winner, reviewing the group's first album, "Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5," for Rolling Stone, praised Michael's versatile singing and added, "Who is this 'Diana Ross,' anyway?"

The group's first four singles -- "I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There" -- went to No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart, the first time any group had pulled off that feat. There was even a Jackson 5 cartoon series on ABC.

In 1972, he hit No. 1 as a solo artist with the song "Ben."

The group's popularity waned as the '70s continued, and Michael eventually went solo full time. He played the Scarecrow in the 1978 movie version of "The Wiz," and released the album "Off the Wall" in 1979. Its success paved the way for "Thriller," which eventually became the best-selling album in history, with 50 million copies sold worldwide.

At that point, Michael Jackson became ubiquitous.

Seven of "Thriller's" nine cuts were released as singles; all made the Top Ten. The then-new cable channel MTV, criticized for its almost exclusively white playlist, finally started playing Jackson's videos. They aired incessantly, including a 14-minute minimovie of the title cut. ("Weird Al" Yankovic cemented his own stardom by lampooning Jackson's song "Beat It" with a letter-perfect parody video.)

On the Motown Records' 25th-anniversary special -- a May 1983 TV extravaganza with notable turns by the Temptations, the Four Tops and Smokey Robinson -- it was Michael Jackson who stopped the show.

Already he was the most popular musician in America, riding high with "Thriller." But something about his electrifying performance of "Billie Jean," complete with the patented backward dance moves, boosted his stardom to a new level.

People copied his Jheri-curled hair and single-gloved, zippered-jacket look. Showbiz veterans such as Fred Astaire praised his chops. He posed for photos with Ronald and Nancy Reagan at the White House. Paul McCartney teamed with him on three duets, two of which -- "The Girl Is Mine" and "Say Say Say" -- became top five hits. Jackson became a Pepsi spokesman, and when his hair caught fire while making a commercial, it was worldwide news.

It all happened very fast -- within a couple years of the Motown special. But even at the time of the "Motown 25" moonwalk, fame was old hat to Michael Jackson. He hadn't even turned 25 himself, but he'd been a star for more than half his life. He was given the nickname the "King of Pop" -- a spin on Elvis Presley's status as "the King of Rock 'n' Roll" -- and few questioned the moniker.

Relentless attention

But, as the showbiz saying has it, when you're on top of the world, there's nowhere to go but down. The relentless attention given Jackson started focusing as much on his eccentricities -- some real, some rumored -- as his music.

As the Web site Allmusic.com notes, he was rumored to sleep in a hyperbaric chamber and to have purchased the bones of John Merrick, the "Elephant Man." (Neither was true.) He did have a pet chimpanzee, Bubbles; underwent a series of increasingly drastic plastic surgeries; established an estate, Neverland, filled with zoo animals and amusement park rides; and managed to purchase the Beatles catalog from under Paul McCartney's nose, which displeased the ex-Beatle immensely.

In 1990s and 2000s, Jackson found himself pasted across the media for his short-lived marriages, the first to Elvis Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie; his 2002 claim that then Sony Records head Tommy Mottola was racist; his behavior and statements during a 2003 interview with British journalist Martin Bashir done for a documentary called "Living With Michael Jackson;" his changing physical appearance; and, above all, the accusations that he sexually molested young boys at Neverland.

The first such accusation, in 1993, resulted in a settlement to the 13-year-old accuser (rumored to be as high as $20 million), though no criminal charges were filed, Allmusic.com notes.

He also fell deeply in debt and was forced to sell some of his assets. Neverland was one of many holdings that went on the block. However, an auction of material from Neverland, scheduled for April, was called off and all items returned to Jackson.

Interest in Jackson never faded, however, even if some of it was prurient. In 2008, when he announced 10 comeback shows in London, beginning in July 2009, the story made worldwide news. The number of concerts was later increased to 50.

Seventy-five thousand tickets sold in four hours when they went on sale in March.

However, when the shows were postponed until 2010, rumors swept the Internet that Jackson was not physically prepared and possibly suffering from skin cancer.

At the time, the president and CEO of AEG Live, Randy Phillips, said, "He's as healthy as can be -- no health problems whatsover."

Jackson held open auditions for dancers in April in Los Angeles.

He is survived by his three children, Prince Michael I, Paris and Prince Michael II.

Just when I thought it would be good to take a few hours nap on my off-day on Tuesday, a freeking biawak decided to keep me company in my house. Saw the small 1 half foot reptile scrambling about at the back of the extended kitchen.

Armed myself with a broom and pail hoping to nail it but it went for cover in the old leaking Ariston washing machine. This where the standoff began for 2 half hours. It still refused to show itself until dad-in-law came over to lend a hand.

We pushed the old machine all the way outside to the back and left it there for scrap collectors, which dad-in-law will kowtim.

There goes the machine I was hoping to sell on the Net. Put it up for sell on Mudah.my for RM80 and enquiries were pouring in until I took it off hoping to sell it at higher price later on. No more of that.

Car Maintenance ie. repair repair repair

My SEG has endured harsh driving conditions since my Muar working days.

The left arm of the front shaft was giving out knocking sounds more severely now so brought it to Chuah's Service Centre (workshop la) for checking last Saturday. Confirmed left arm faulty.

Yesterday, on my MC day, another fault appeared. Found that the belting for the Alternator has lost one strip. So over to Chuah's for repairs la since Ah Man has ordered the left shaft arm.

Replaced all three belts since the belts all in crude conditions, with one belt of not even the required width. Suspected replaced in end 2007 when repairs were done on the blown radiator top.

Then the left front shaft were replaced altho the first replacement of different specs. The second one fits.

Went for test drive with Ah Man and in 5 minutes, belts giving funny sound and then the engine died!! Up the bonnet and saw the Alternator belt was shredded! WTF! Managed to start the car but running without cooling, power-steering and battery-charging.

Back to workshop and saw that the pulley for the belt was displaced one groove. The rubber joint has gave way. Another thing to change. Sheesh!

Too late to go to spare part chop-shop then, so left the car there overnite.

Picked up the car this afternoon after a hefty bill of RM480.

But hope everything else sticks.

Kid fever again

Brought him to Child Specialist Dr Tan. Refused to open his mouth to check his tonsils although saw the upper mouth inflammed.

Fever about 37 degrees.

Water Tank Leaking Again

The stupid fibreglass water tank has leaked 3 corners now.

Discovered the leak last nite in the small guest room upstairs. Heard dripping sounds and saw the ceiling wall against the washroom was wet and dripping water. Water has accumulated on the top of the 5-storey plastic drawer. Luckily the contents in the drawers were not wet.

Thought of washing clothes today but might as well get it done immediately instead of draining the tank wastefully. Closed off the tap to upstairs for the nite.

Rushed off to buy required patching materials this morning, like the tar-like seal tapes. Still have the silicone sealants from last year, tho already half-hardened. Of course get the ladder from in-laws.

Drained water to pails for later use, like for my bath, and patched the inside and outside corners of the leaked corner and the last good one as well.

Free sauna in the roof.

Darren Fell Off the Bed...No 3

The poor kid gave us a scare 2am this morning.

Heard a thud in the dark and the poor guy crying on the floor at the end of the bed.

After some soothing he went back to sleep.

This is the third time (if I remembered correctly) he fell off the bed.

Used to put a big pillow as a block at the edge of the bed and old comforter on the floor at the end of the bed if he did fell. And it never happened then.

The comforter was used only until late last year. Swapped the big pillow with a standard pillow at the bed edge.

But last nite, mummy did not put the pillow at the bed edge and IT happened. Good timing, kiddo.

13th Month Payout

The GM announced "Incentive 2008: A 13th month payout of the salary based on a prorated basis to local employees".

Blank faces in the audience says it all. WHAT in the world does that mean?

It's after CNY, a little late, a little too little but what the heck.....better than nothing to pay off debts.

I used to own an OCBC credit card I applied during my Muar days, years ago, until I cancelled it on January 2007. I did not swipe it even ONCE!!! It was free for five years what.

But I do remember when I got to the bank and mentioned to the Customer Service rep of my intention, she requested for a personally signed letter requesting the bank to cancel my card!!?

I mean, don't these big (I think) international banks have standard forms for card requests? What if a customer wants to change his address? "Write-la a personal letter to us and we will update our system". Aiyoh!!

Anyhow, wasted my time;

Late last year, I received an OCBC Titanium card. Knowing I will never used it, I did not bother to activate it.

Then I received a statement charging me RM250 for annual renewal fees!!?? This time I called their toll-free number and requested for cancellation of the card.

Simple enough;

2. I filled in my particulars

3. ticked my reason - to CANCEL card la

This WAS how the old entrance to the outlets look like. Down is Kampung Restaurant. Forward to Fun Pub Cocco Loco and Italian Bistro. It will never look the same again.

Came to work at 2.30pm yesterday (Sunday la !!!) hoping to setup POS machines for F&B outlets Fun Pub (renamed FLOW, how un-original!!) and Italian Bistro, after expected completion of renovation yesterday.

One look at Flow and anybody can see that it'll take at least another day to complete, including cleaning-up. The best thing are the fridges and post-mix machines are not installed yet. How's this for planning??

Looks like the big guys have not learnt from Kampung Restaurant renovation last year. That rush job to meet the deadline resulted in half-cold equipments, with malfunctions, disconnected power points and no gas supplies. I waited for the contractors to install the power points till midnite and when they were not done yet, I go sleep la. Early next morning, our mat salleh GM took a look and saw the POS machine is not on and I was laid on the chopping board. The thing is they FORGOT about the power point for the machine. Sheesh!

Yesterday, even network points are not terminated. The network cabling contractor only managed to terminate a few points, with only Bistro up and running, of course only one POS machine is needed there. So this is the only machine I setup yesterday. Even the holes on the table needed for the cables are not fully drilled through.

Today to setup POS machines for Flow.

Today expected the Front Desk counters to complete their renovation and to setup 3 PCs for Trial Run.

Fuyoh! Back-to-back setup. Looks like another long night!

HSBC Credit Cards

I received my card statements few weeks back with annual renewal fees charged. Since I hardly use the HSBC cards, plus I have other cards in toll, I decided to cancel them.

I called the HSBC toll-free number 1-300-88-1388 and it answered with a fake human voice, requested me to enter my card number and my request option. I chose to speak to the officer. I hold and waited, and after numerous attempts, I was happy to finally speak to somebody of my own species.

I told the guy I would like to discountinue my service. Upon a short checking, I was told I am NOT ABLE to cancel the cards because I did not use it for at least 12 times a year!! Nor was he able to waive my annual fee. This is for my Mastercard. I'm like 'what the f...!!'

Now, my Visa has a two cents debit and he is unable to do anything to it either.

I am instructed to go to the nearest HSBC branch to complete my task. Alrighty, there I went to the branch. After rounding the damn busiest area in town for 45 minutes looking for a parking space, I decided to slot in a non-designated space.

Got my queue number and waited about 1 minute, I approached a Customer Service officer. Told her my predicaments of the call I made to their toll-free number, and her blank expression replied expecting me to blow my top. All I have to do was to sign twice on the forms and she cut the cards there. Voila! Done in 4 minutes.

Today received a call from HSBC KL, some Queenie lady apologising for the hassle I went through to cancel my cards. She hopes I continue using their cards with the annual fees waived for 5 years, since other banks mostly waived the fees altogether. It's free, what the hell!!

Now wait for the cards lah.

Windows XP 3-Day Activation Crack

I setup a LICENSED Windows XP Pro on a PC and swapped the HDD on home PC (how often do you find me doing this on own PC?). Of course, both the PCs are of the same MOBO specs, or so I thought.

The PC booted successfully, except it prompt to re-activate Windows in 3-days since it detected significant hardware changes on the PC.

After googling a bit, found tips in Youtube on how to get rid of the activation.

Just open registry> regedit

Go to;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ WPAEvents

Modify the binary data of OOBETimer to FF D5 71 D6 6A 8D 6F D5 33 93 FD

Change the permission of folder WPAEvents of SYSTEM to DENY.

Restart PC and done !!

Darren With Bad Coughs & Flu

The little guy has a sleepless nite the nite before, due to a bad coughing. Brought him to see Child Specialist Doctor Tan in the morning.

It's a viral infection going around that's giving him the flu due to the changing weather, looks like monsoon but still not quite there yet.

As for the cough, it was an old cough from months ago which never seem to go away. Doc warned if this persists, it would transpire to asthma. Doc also queried the surroundings and if I smoke in the house or in front of kid. No way!!

She prescribed meds for coughs, flu, asthma and antibiotic. RM90.

Darren skipped nursery yesterday and today.

SIXTY (Plus) USES OF SALT

Although you may not realize it, simple table salt has a great number of uses other than simply seasoning your food.

The following list will give you sixty uses of salt, many of which you probably didn't realize:-

1. If you drop a whole egg on the floor, pour salt all over the egg, let it sit for awhile, then use dustpan, the egg will come right up, without all that mess. Contributed by Ms. Jerry McGinnis.

2. Soak stained hankies in salt water before washing.

3. Sprinkle salt on your shelves to keep ants away.

4. Soak fish in salt water before decaling; the scales will come off easier.

5. Put a few grains of rice in your saltshaker for easier pouring.

6. Add salt to green salads to prevent wilting.

7. Test the freshness of eggs in a cup of salt water; fresh eggs sink;bad ones float.

8. Add a little salt to your boiling water when cooking eggs; a cracked egg will stay in its shell this way.

9. A tiny pinch of salt with egg whites makes them beat up fluffier.

10. Soak wrinkled apples in a mildly salted water solution to perk them up.

11. Rub salt on your pancake griddle and your flapjacks won't stick.

Wild Boar !!??

On the way to drop off Darren at the nursery, we saw a wild boar crossing the road to get to the other side, just a block away from the nursery.

According to Auntie Wong, of nursery, she know of the animals come out at night here. She hasn't seen any yet though its strange and lucky for me to caught a glimpse of one in daylight.

Wish my phone has a better quality camera to snap away but what the hey.....wait lor.

Darren caught fever

Poor kid was sticking to me like glue on Monday. Loss of appetite and flu over last weekend suspiciously looks like a bout of fever.

Took him to Dr Seong for checkup. Confirmed sore-throat.

Medicine for the throat, flu and fever were given.

Grandma took care of him on Tuesday. Seems like his normal active self now.

But woke up at 6.30am on Wednesday morning crying for Grandma. How he knows I'm sending him back to nursery today? haha he knows.

At the nursery, reminded Ms Phan to give him the medicines for sore-throat and flu only by noon. Don't want him to feel drowsy whole day.

Raining Cats And Dogs

Last Friday was raining very heavily. The road outside in-laws' residence was flooded to knee length. House not affected though.

On the way back to home with Darren, took the road thru the Tanah Putih traffic light, to Jln Wong Ah Jang and Kampung Tengah. Didn't cross my mind the Kg Tengah road was partially flooded. No wonder cars avoided the later stretch of this road. Even a 4WD ahead of me also turned right out of this road.

The water covered the full wheel on my Kenari. I stuck to gear two, did not stop and maintained slow speed. When I saw a Wira dead in the waters ahead, I turned left into the Kampung residence and came out to Kampung Jawa road. Home-free!!

Luckily it was a Kenari, if my SEG, sure to get stuck in the waters.

The next day, found that the Kenari's number plate was ripped off by the flood water. A little bit of junk like leaves and a straw was sticking to the radiator grill. Replaced the number plate for RM12.

Nursery - 3rd Day

Today is the 3rd day Darren was placed at Little Friends Nursery.

The 1st day we left him without properly informing him. So when his grandma went to fetch him, I guess he missed them and home, and cried when he saw them.

He did not eat well, probably picky, and went to grandma's house and finished a whole quarter of a mooncake. Also finished a bowl of rice powder and a bottle of milk.

Looks tired at night. A bit grumbly though.

The 2nd day, he was a bit blur and excited to attend the nursery among other children and play toys. No problem dropping him off. Said goodbye as usual.

He ate quite well although needs some spoon-feeding. Slept well but maybe 2 hours not enough. Still grumbly and sleepy-looking.

But today, when drop him off, refused to go. Throws tantrum. Hurriedly said goodbye while the teachers carried him off.

He cried at first but later play with other kids but with a few bouts of shoutings.

All this are expected on a different environment and among unknowns. Takes time.

hahaha Darren's grandpa felt heartache of his crying and fetched him home at 3pm.

The Sign Of Things To Come?

While leaving my house early this morning, I was stopped by my next door elderly neighbor. Apparently, upon returning from her daily morning routine walk to the pasar pagi a short distance away, she had her purse and mobile phone snatched!! Same modus operandi of a biker coming from behind the unsuspecting victim.

She has to borrow my phone to call her daughter to open the house gate for her. Thankfully, she was not harmed or injured, a bruise was visible on her right arm though. She mentioned it's not the stolen money that matter, it's the hassle of reporting to the police and re-applying for the lost MyKad and other documents.

My small neighborhood is normally quiet and peaceful and a robbery of this sort is usually rare. With the decline in the economy, we have to expect crimes to escalate almost everywhere.

Just a word of advise: be careful everywhere you go, no matter whether you are driving or walking, going out of the house or coming back into your house, always be vigilante. You can never be too safe. Not anymore.

Where was I during the opening ceremony of Olympic 2008 in Beijing, China? In Malaysia la, of course but I did not watch it 'live' on TV. I was getting transformed !!

I was at a talk on Public Mutual unit trust fund. It was an eye-opener unlike other direct-selling companies. It was a way to educate others to invest their hard-earned money for their future. Already I signed up as an agent on this auspicious day. In a way I can earn a lot of commission from the sales.

Darren's Birthday celebration at in-law's residence, 31st May 2008.

Candlelights were placed in the house. The living room is filled with balloons (actually less than 20) of various shapes, ranging from funny-eared mouse to funny-eared rabbits (!!??).

Lights were switched off and the cake was brought out into the living room. The look on the little rascal's face was a expected surprise. He seems to know today is his special day, surprisingly well-behaved the whole day.

Just back from Grandma's funeral and guess what I found at the house porch? NOTHING !!!

The flower seed which was growing is MISSING !! STOLEN !!

Who the mothafucka did this will be cursed to be hit be a truck. No, he/she won't die there & then, just lie in vegetative state while the seeds from my flower continue to grow !!!

Now I will never know when the next one will grow.
